Shortland Street star Amelia Reid-Meredith is on a stylish mission to make a big difference to the lives of struggling single mums in Kenya.
The 28-year-old actress, who plays receptionist Bella Cooper in New Zealand's favourite television soap, has become an ambassador for Sew Women Can, the business arm of not-for-profit organisation So They Can. The charity, founded by New Zealander of the Year nominee Cassandra Treadwell, offers a way out of poverty for women in Africa through business and education. Initiatives include a school to teach women how to start their own business and generate income.
As well as raising awareness for the charity, Reid-Meredith is on a mission to raise much-needed funds by selling handcrafts and clothes made by programme participants to friends and colleagues.
She has raised $1,000 for the charity and replenished her stock ahead of International Women's Day today.
