Two teenagers involved in a jetski incident in which Rotorua teenager Bishop Thompson died will face charges, police have revealed.
Bishop disappeared after he fell from a jetski on Lake Okareka on January 8. The 17-year-old's body was recovered from the lake on January 12 after search teams had spent five days combing the lake.
Detective Sergeant John Wilson said the driver of the jetski Bishop fell from and the driver of another jetski which allegedly struck and killed him would be charged under the Maritime Transport Act.
It was expected the charges would be laid within a week and the pair would appear in court by the end of the month.
Mr Wilson said the decision to charge the teenagers followed careful analysis of the case by the Rotorua Crown Solicitors office.
