A judge has thrown out charges against a cookery school manager accused of trying to deceive Immigration NZ.
In the Auckland District Court today Judge Mark Perkins discharged Kingsland Institute general manager Donald Han on one count of providing false and misleading information to an immigration officer and issued a stay of proceedings on another similar charge.
The prosecution claimed Mr Han set out to deceive Immigration NZ for personal gain by adding $3000 to a student's bank account to make it look as if she had $10,000 to live on.
The defence said Mr Han was a victim of entrapment, set up by the school's commercial rival, North Shore International Academy.
