KEY POINTS:
A Nelson man seriously injured after falling off the roof of his car while mooning traffic will probably be charged, police say.
Kane Heal, 22, is still in Christchurch Hospital's intensive care unit after he was thrown off the vehicle in a car-surfing stunt on Saturday.
The car was driven by his girlfriend, Leslie Whitaker.
Senior Constable Chris Hughey of Hanmer Springs police said Heal had his trousers down and was mooning other vehicles from the car's roof when he fell off at a speed of at least 80km/h.
Mr Heal required facial surgery after sliding 20m face-first along State Highway 7, about 10km north of the Hanmer Springs turnoff.
Mr Hughey told The Press that Whitaker was likely to be charged with dangerous driving causing injury, and Heal would be at least charged with riding on a vehicle dangerously.
Mr Heal underwent plastic surgery to his face on Sunday.
