Charges after fatal Ohakune crash

A man has died and another is facing charges after a car crash near Ohakune this morning.

The crash happened at about 3.10am when the car failed to take a bend in Ohakune's main street, crashing into a pole and a raised stone-edged garden.

A 19 year-old man died at the scene and two other men were taken to Whanganui Hospital with serious to moderate injuries, according to a police statement.

Police serious crash investigators were at the scene this morning.

"The 18 year old male driver suffered minor injuries and will appear in court facing charges relating to the crash at a later date," the statement said.

Police believe speed and alcohol were major factors in the crash.
