A 24-year-old woman arrested after the fatal stabbing of a woman in Auckland last month now faces the more serious charge of murder, police said tonight.
A 53-year-old woman died in the house in the upmarket suburb of Remuera on March 26.
The names of the victim and the accused, and their relationship, are suppressed.
The young woman was initially charged with assault, but was charged with murder after further police investigation.
She has been remanded in custody and is due back in Auckland District Court on Monday, when a mental health assessment on her fitness to plead would be made available.
