Wairarapa United will have a change of goalkeeper when they play Upper Hutt in a catch-up Capital Soccer premier division men's soccer match at Upper Hutt tomorrow.
Regular 'keeper Tony Jamieson is in camp with the Cook Islands national side which is preparing for their South Pacific tournament and he will be replaced by John Antcliff, who has performed well there in the past.
Also missing from the Wairarapa United line-up will be hard-nosed midfielder Merick Tvaroh who has returned to the Czech Republic but who will be back in the Wairarapa United colours in 2008.
Manager Phil Keinzley is aware of the dangers of Wairarapa United dropping their performance levels because the best they can now do in the premier division competition is third but is optimistic that won't be a worry.
He anticipates Pita Rabo, Petero Dauniseka and Lai Gataurua "fizzing" after being involved in two games against a New Zealand invitation XI in Fiji last week and sparking their teammates into action as a result.
"We don't want to fall into the trap of just going through the motions, that would be disappointing," he said.
Meanwhile, the Wairarapa under-19 team will be looking to consolidate their lead in the Ivan England Trophy competition when they play Marist Wellington at Carterton on Sunday in a match kicking off at 2pm.
Wairarapa were very impressive in beating Wainuiomata. 5-0 a fortnight ago and with Wainuiomata having beaten Marist Wellington another good win seems in the offing.
Keinzley, who coaches the Wairarapa team, said having the match at Carterton provided a good opportunity for local soccer enthusiasts to view the best of the province's young talent in action.
"We do have some really promising players here & promising enough to go right to the top if they get the chance," he said. "They just need to get exposure and every win we get helps in that respect."
