The Maori Party is demanding change this morning, after the revelation police dogs have been set on youths as young as 12.
This morning's Herald on Sunday reports a young girl who was hiding in a kindergarten was bitten by a police dog - sent in when she didn't respond to an officer's calls.
She's one of nearly 30 youths bitten by police dogs in a six month period. More than 60 per cent of them were Maori, according to police data.
In general, Maori were 12 times as likely to face a dog as Pakeha.
Maori Party co-leader Marama Fox said it shows there's still a problem of unconscious bias within the police.
