Champion cheese named

Oamaru cheese company Whitestone's Windsor Blue was yesterday named the nation's champion cheese.

The win was announced at the champions of cheese awards dinner in Auckland, from an array of nearly 500 cheeses assessed by a panel of 32 judges, headed by US-based master judge John Greeley.

The entries for the annual competition made up nearly two tonnes of cheese.

Puhoi Valley camembert was named New Zealand's favourite cheese for the third year in a row.
