Defending Golden Shears open champion Cam Ferguson still holds the world eight-hour lamb shearing record.
Ferguson set the new mark of 742 three weeks ago and it was to be challenged in Taupo last Thursday by New Zealand-based Irish shearer Ivan Scott, who held the record at 736 for two years. However, Scott was forced to cancel his latest attempt when organisers were unable to guarantee enough suitable lambs.
World Sheep Shearing Records Society secretary Hugh McCarroll, now expects no further world record bids in New Zealand this season after a flurry of five attempts, three of which were successful.
The first came on December 22 when King Country's Stacey Te Huia sheared a solo eight-hour ewes record of 603 and Ferguson's record on January 10 was followed by a two-stand ewes record of 1066 in eight hours by brothers Doug and Rowland Smith.
