Two people who challenged suspended MP Brian Connell's candidacy for the Rakaia seat may have another go at securing the National Party's nomination.
National list MP David Carter might also put his name forward for selection if boundary changes move chunks of Banks Peninsula into the Rakaia electorate.
Farmer Angus McKay and National list MP Kate Wilkinson, who have both previously challenged Mr Connell, told the Ashburton Guardian they could be interested in the job.
Mr Connell told the Press in Christchurch he "wouldn't be surprised" if there was a contest in Rakaia.
