Challenge on track to help rebuild

Chanel College pupils will be raising money through the Caritas Challenge this weekend for people living in the storm-ravaged Philippines.

Chanel College is inviting participants to its Caritas Challenge this weekend to walk for 24 hours in support of the Philippines rebuild.

The challenge, undertaken in Lent, will see teams walking from 1pm Saturday to midday Sunday on the college's athletic lawn.

College spokeswoman Bronwyn Hallot says it is the second year the college has run a challenge.

"This year, the focus is for the Philippines - Build Back Better.

"The Philippines has been hit with storm after storm, they're still rebuilding.

"We hope to improve on what we raised for the Solomon Islands last year, which was $1800.

"Through donations and registration for the walk/run we hope we can surpass this."

The college's Young Vinnies group co-ordinate the event in support of Caritas, a Catholic aid agency.

Members of the team taking time out will be be able to relax in the school's hall, with movies and food stalls. Entry to the event is $5, payable on the day.
