Someone has tried to use a breakfast spread to conceal cannabis in a package sent to a prisoner at the Hawke's Bay Regional Prison.
The drug was found by the prison's drug dog during a routine check of all property being sent into the prison last week.
Prison manager George Massingham says staff found the cannabis concealed within a rubber glove which had been smeared in marmite or vegemite and hidden in the sole of shoes.
Mr Massingham says the drug dogs are trained to detect certain odours down to parts per trillion, so it takes more than sandwich spread to fool them.
