Masterton's Genesis Recreation Centre has been given the thumbs up by Wairarapa netball player-coach Kelly Sargent.
Her team held a training session there on Tuesday evening in preparation for their opening regional super league match against Mana at the same venue tomorrow night and Sargent was thoroughly impressed by what she saw.
"The floor of the main stadium is great for netball??probably as good as anything they've got in Palmerston North and Wellington," she said "There's some give in it when you move around and the ball has good speed off the surface when you bounce it. We're really looking forward to playing there."
Tomorrow's night match, which will get under way at 7pm, signals the re-appearance of the Wairarapa senior team after a six-year break and Sargent says her players are determined to start on a high note.
"Everybody is bubbling with enthusiasm," she said."It's a chance to put Wairarapa netball back on the map and we all want to make the most of it"
At the same time though Sargent admits that the quality of the opposition is unknown and she would not be drawn into predicting a result.
"It don't know good they (Mana)are and, quite honestly, we're not too sure about how good we are either," she said. "It's unknown territory and we'll be a lot wiser after the game."
The starting seven for Wairarapa was named after Tuesday's training with experience playing a big part in Sargent's deliberations.
She will be at goal shoot with Geraldine Carroll at goal attack, Carlene Karaitiana at wing attack, Emma Foote at centre, Lisa Manihera at wing defence, Sarah Brooking at goal defence and Lisa Butler at goal keeper.
