A cordon has been lifted on one of Wellington's busiest streets after falling glass prompted the evacuation of pedestrians and motorists this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to 280 Lambton Quay about 2pm after reports of falling glass.
The area between Panama and Willis streets was cordoned off as firefighters and contractors worked to secure a shattered 20th storey window, central fire communications spokesman David Meikle said.
The cordon was lifted about 4.30pm.
The window broke after being struck by a bird, Radio New Zealand reported.
There were no reported injuries.
