Celtic coach Dayle Clarkson accepts her team have just become the warm favourites to win this season's Netball Wairarapa premier one competition.
The withdrawal of defending champions Harcourts because of their involvement in the regional superleague means Celtic no longer have to compete against the only premier one side to have beaten them so far this season.
And their victories over all other teams have been comfortable enough to suggest any loss suffered by Celtic from here on in would have to be regarded as a surprise.
Clarkson though has been around the sporting scene long enough to know that upsets often occur when you least expect them and she is intent on her players taking nothing for granted.
"Yes, we should be the team to beat but it's still all about taking one game at a time, if we get too far ahead of ourselves we could trip up," she said. "We can't go resting on our laurels, no way."
While she has been pleased with the results achieved by her side to date Clarkson says their performance levels have not always matched their potential.
"We've been a bit up and down really, some games we have played really well and others we have pretty ordinary", she said. "Consistency is what we want and we've still got some work to do in that respect."
Celtic have not been treated kindly on the injury front with three of their key defenders in Perri Tatana, Jodie Graham and Naomi Reiri all having been sidelined .
Tatana will be back for the match against Pioneer Blue at the Genesis Recreation Centre in Masterton on Friday evening but Graham and Reiri are still "very doubtful" starters for that game.
The injury hassles have meant coach Clarkson has been forced to often select players out of their usual positions and she has been impressed with their response, particularly Janeen Southey who has cemented her way into the starting line-up with a series of excellent displays at centre.
Another major strength of Celtic has been their accuracy of their shooting which has mainly been in the hands of the mother-and-daughter combination of Katie and Hope Phillips.
Clarkson doesn't know quite what to expect from Pioneer Blue who have been promoted into the premier one grade as the replacement for Harcourts but she is anticipating them being very enthusiastic about having the opportunity to play in the top league. "They won't be any push-overs, they'll be giving it heaps," she said.
The other premier one match on Friday night should produce a close battle between Fagan Motors Hot Shots and Kuranui College while tomorrow night's action will see Wairarapa College up against St Matthew's Collegiate. and Gladstone All Blacks taking on Carterton Sports Arena.
