If you have ever wondered what it might be like to be held in a police cell, don't commit a crime - come to an open day tomorrow at Masterton police station.
The Wairarapa police community open day will feature displays set up in the adjacent Church St car park, operational vehicles to view, opportunities to interact with police dogs and their handlers, meet an armed offender squad member and search and rescue volunteers.
Staff will be taking small groups through the station where fingerprinting and mug shots will be taken - and a look inside the cells.
Masterton Sergeant Ian Osland said the day has been designed to help recruit women to the police force, in conjunction with the TV series Women In Blue, but also to give the public a better idea of the different areas of policing.
Neighbourhood Support and Victim Support will also attend the day, which runs from 10am to 2pm and is open to everyone.
