A young German couple have been left scrambling for emergency passports needed for a trip home next week after thieves broke into their campervan within five minutes of them leaving it.
The couple have lost thousands of dollars worth of electrical items and their passports, which they needed for their return home next week.
The tourists parked outside the Warehouse in Paraparaumu today at 11.05am and went inside.
They had been in the store for no more than five minutes, and upon returning to the black bongo campervan discovered the break-in.
"The couple have been very shaken by this incident and have also been hit with the extra stress of obtaining emergency passports as they are due to leave the country next week," a police spokesman said.
