An overheating fridge motor has been identified as the cause of Tuesday's warehouse fire in Raglan.
The warehouse on the Raglan Wharf, which housed five different businesses including Raglan Seafoods, was completely destroyed in the blaze.
Waikato fire safety officer Kevin Holmes pinpointed the cause as a motor in a display unit's fridge which had overheated.
He said an electrical inspector from Auckland yesterday also confirmed the cause.
Mr Holmes, who lives in the west coast town, said the fire was "a very sad day for our town", the Waikato Times reported.
"It's part of our history, gone. It's probably the biggest event, apart from the passing of a couple of key Raglan identities, that Raglan has seen for a long time."
Twenty jobs had been lost as a result and many people had visited the site since the fire, he said.
Raglan ward councillor and Waikato district deputy mayor Clint Baddeley also said the fire was a tragic loss for the town.
