A bizarre problem for North Shore City council staff.
More than 25 live cattle have been found on a patch of council land on East Coast Bays Rd near Torbay.
The cattle appear to have been dumped there and staff have been working all day to try to identify the owners. They have borrowed a nearby farmer's 10 acre paddock to put the cattle in for now.
The area where they were dumped had very little grass and was unfenced.
The council's animal control coordinator said it was lucky cows were not running all over Torbay.
