Catholic bishops have decided to appeal last week's Broadcasting Standards Authority ruling on the South Park Bloody Mary episode.
The controversial episode, screened on C4 in February, showed the Virgin Mary menstruating.
The authority decided not to uphold the bishops' complaint, as well as the other 34 complaints it had received about the episode.
Some donations towards the cost of appealing the decision to the High Court had already been pledged, said Catholic Church spokeswoman Lyndsay Freer.
