Catherine McNicol Lunney had a knack for being "zany but loveable," a friend says.
The 62-year-old mother of two was officially identified as one of those killed in the earthquake in March 2011.
She was believed to have been in the Pyne Gould building when it collapsed.
Friends have paid online tributes to the woman who was recognised for her big red hair and her smile.
Friend Steve described Catherine as being warm, funny, pragmatic, sensible and quirky.
Another said: "Always so full of energy - life of the party."
While close friend Mandy wrote: "My lovely friend Catherine: such a warm, vibrant character.
"Remember the huge hairy orang-utan you bought up to St George's when Todd was born? You had the knack of being zany but loveable ... We will never forget you and your love."
