When it comes to personal transport, the Super City mayoral candidates' modes of travel are anything but eco-friendly.
All the major candidates have expressed interest in unclogging Auckland's roads and investing in sustainable transport.
But those policies have not yet influenced their personal travel.
John Banks and Len Brown used their mayoral cars as their primary mode of transport.
Mr Banks drives a Holden Commodore and Mr Brown a Holden Calais.
In his own time, Mr Banks occasionally rides his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Mr Brown said he wanted an electric car but there was not one on the market that could fit his family. '
'The day that a good-sized electric car is launched, which has five seats and will fit everyone in it, is the day when I will finally take over a hybrid vehicle."
Businessman and candidate for the mayoralty Colin Craig drove a late-model BMW SUV.
He said public transport was out of the question because he lived on the outskirts of Auckland.
"And I couldn't bike, because I live at the top of a huge hill which would be impossible to cycle up".
North Shore Mayor Andrew Williams mainly used his mayoral vehicle, a Nissan Maxima V6.
He said it had a new engine which "went an awful long way on a tank of gas".
He also owned a Jaguar S-type, but limited its use because it guzzled petrol.
