Catamaran capsizes near Waiheke Island

Emergency services are attempting to rescue two people whose catamaran capsized off Waiheke Island, today.

Auckland police sergeant Christopher Money said the catamaran -- which flipped at about midnight -- was floating upside down at the eastern end of Waiheke Island.

The police helicopter had found two people who were sitting on the hull of the boat, he said.

Both the Coast Guard and the police launch Deodar were at the scene, he said.
