A unique exhibition will showcase decades of work by one of New Zealand's most celebrated political cartoonists.
Peter Bromhead's exhibition opened at the Jonathan Grant Galleries in Parnell yesterday, featuring work that highlighted -- among other events -- the political escapades of former Prime Minister Robert Muldoon and conservative Catholic activist Patricia Bartlett.
Bromhead's drawings, all ink on board from an era before digital reproduction, include award-winning depictions of the country's political and social life from his time at The Listener, The Truth and the Auckland Star.
The exhibition, When Ink was King, showcases his signature simple style that earned him the criticism of "a cartoonist who can't draw".
For his contribution to the industry, Bromhead has won 10 Qantas and Canon national print media awards, was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2000 and was awarded The Prince Henrik Medal of Honour in 2001.
