Carterton will be humming

Carterton will see two big shows as part of New Zealand Music Month in May.

The Gunslingers Ball will be held on May 4, and I'm Your Man will be held on May 21 at Carterton Events Centre.

The ball will be a Saturday night special of rootsy blues and country in the company of Bernie Griffen & The Grifters, who will be performing alongside special guests Tami Neilson, The Broadsides, John The Baptist and raucous Americana-outfit D Burmesters & The Blind.

It's the first time the show has visited the area and is a sell-out when playing in Wellington and Auckland.

The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra have been added to the bill of I'm Your Man - A Celebration Of The Words & Music of Leonard Cohen.

The concert is headed up by Cohen's biographer Sylvie Simmons as well, featuring the author being interviewed about her best-selling book on the respected songwriter by the Dominion Post's Simon Sweetman. A number of musical acts playing their own take on Cohen's classics include Wellington bands Eb & Sparrow, French For Rabbits, John The Baptist, Jesse Sheehan and local musicians Bear Bailey and Brassed Off.

Both events are presented by music promoters Up With People as part of Music Month. Tickets are $25 in advance and available from dashtickets.co.nz
