Carterton have won the Wairarapa Croquet Association's Inter-Club Cup after beating Masterton in the final round of matches.
Played at the Masterton club's headquarters at Queen Elizabeth Park, two keenly fought games of association croquet were staged with scores of 14-11 to Carterton and 9-7 to Masterton being posted, giving Carterton a one point win overall.
The matches were of three hours duration and were umpired by association stalwart Duncan Adair.
The result was closer than their previous clash when Carterton had six points to spare.
Members of the successful Carterton side were Anne Horne (captain), Judy Betts, Max Sedcole, Stella Smith and Madeline Tacon while the Masterton team was Carl Redvers (captain), George Begg, Yvonne Fraser, Cheryl Johnston and Annette Rowland.
The Inter-Club Cup was presented to Carterton by Patricia Percy, president of the Masterton club and secretary of the Wairarapa association.
With an increasing number of Carterton croquet players currently learning the traditional game of association croquet it is hoped that next year Carterton will be able to field a larger team to defend the Inter-Club Cup, something which will make it an even more interesting and exciting inter-club competition.
