Carterton swimmer Joe Hammond set three Wairarapa records in boys 16yrs backstroke events at the national short course swimming championships in Wellington.
The new times came over 50m, 100m and 200m and in each case was bettering a record previously set by older brother Hamish Hammond, a rising star on the triathlon scene.
The 50m backstroke saw Joe Hammond place eighth in the final in 28.66secs but it is his heat time of 28.64secs which will stand as the Wairarapa record.
The 100m backstroke produced a fifth (fourth Kiwi) placing in the final in a time of 59.35secs while in the 200m backstroke he picked up the silver medal when finishing second in 2mins 7.91secs.
That silver medal was the second of the championships for Hammond who had earlier been runner-up in the the 200m breaststroke final in 4mins 33.39secs and he was also eighth (sixth Kiwi) in the 100m individual medley at 1min 2.8secs.
