Individual and relay sections will be included in a half-marathon road running event to be held in Carterton on Saturday, September 22.
Organised by Sports Pro Wairarapa, it will also be staged under an open handicap format with the slowest persons or teams on estimated time being the first to get underway.
Sports Pro spokesman Ray Wallis said the relay teams would comprise three runners, each of whom would cover a 7.1km lap.
But exemptions would be allowed for runners aged under-16 years to run each lap in two spilts. In that case, for instance, each runner on the first lap would run 4km apiece.
Wallis said plans were in place to deal with participants whose estimated times were not a good indication of their capabilities.
"If they finish more than a certain percentage under their estimated times then a time penalty will be inflicted on them," he said.
Wallis said entries would be taken from clubs, families, social groups and business houses and they would open from early August.
Individuals will pay an entry fee of $10 and relay teams $20 and monies received from the fees will be donated to the Child Cancer Foundation.
Meanwhile, the Ruamahanga Ramblers held a cross country run at Waiwiri on Saturday with the fine weather and dry underfoot conditions making for some excellent racing.
The diminutive Jessica Duthie performed strongly in the 2km event to grab line honours from her friend Lucy Britland while the 4km race turned out to be a benefit for the Bailey family. Mum Tina took advantage of her generous handicap to take line honours there whilst son Nicholas wasn't daunted by the 18 minutes plus he was giving away to the limit markers on the hilly course to come home second overall and clock fastest time in the process.
The 6km four lap race saw Steve Britland continue his fine form to be first home but the rest of the field were hot on his heels. In fact, just over a minute covered the first seven runners home.

Four of the Ramblers, John Sage, Steve Britland, Greg Lang and Michael Duthie, took on the Scottish Harrier Club's Triple Peaks challenge in Wellington on Sunday, the goal there being to reach the top of three Wellington hill tops and ger back to the clubrooms in as short a time as possible.
The locals were all happy to complete the task in just under three hours.
Next Saturday will see the Ramblers hold a sealed handicap event over an undulating course on Rick Ashby's Ponatahi property.
