Carterton's competition firefighters have claimed another victory, taking out the Wellington Provincial Waterway Competition at Carrington Park last Saturday.
Carterton's four-man team took out all nine of their events for the provincial crown, with the two-man team taking first place and the two-man B team placing third in the Wairarapadivision.
Carterton defeated teams from Hawke's Bay, Feilding, Martinborough and Wainuiomata for the title, in what was also the Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay Provincial Competition.
Carterton fire chief Wayne Robinson said good teamwork was the key to the side's success.
"You've just got to keep the team together and have that team spirit.
Several of the team members were also highly active sportsmen, a factor that gave them an edge over some of the other teams, he said.
With the team recently claiming the North Island Waterway Competition in Turangi, the victory did not come as a surprise, Mr Robinson said. "As long as we ran the same as we did in the North Islands, the other teams weren't going to get close."
