St Mark's Church in Carterton has celebrated 140 years of services.
The church marked the milestone on Sunday with a special matins service and an old-fashioned lunch under the trees.
Eion Clarke's new "Surrey with a Fringe on Top" carriage was one the highlights of the day, bringing Carterton mayor John Booth and his wife Julie to the service.
Mr Clarke said the surrey, which took him a year to make, will be given to a community trust so the town can enjoy it.
The church, built in 1875 from totara milled at the Booth sawmill, was endowed to the town by Carterton's founder, Charles Rooking Carter.
