Carterton association croquet is a fast growing section of the Carterton Bowling and Croquet Club Inc and from this season players of both association and golf croquet have been affiliated to the NZ Croquet Council and joined the Masterton Croquet Club as members of the Wairarapa Association.
After the closure of other Wairarapa croquet clubs some years ago, Masterton had been the sole club for the area, so now with Carterton affiliated, interclub fixtures are being revived and tournaments planned in the future.
On Friday October 12 an inaugural interclub fixture of association croquet was played between Carterton and Masterton on the Carterton croquet green.
Two doubles games were held between four players from each club.
Annette Rowland and George Begg, Masterton, won 15 13 against Judy Betts and Stella Smith, Carterton.
Max Sedcole and Anne Horne, Carterton, won 21-13 against Cheryl Johnston and Carl Redvers, Masterton.
The umpire was Mr Duncan Adair of Masterton.
This event gave a resulting win of 6 points to the Carterton players.
The next interclub day will be held on the November 5 at the Masterton Croquet Club and both clubs' members enthusiastically look forward to this and future matches.
It is Carterton's intention to get more clubs in the Wairarapa such as Martinborough, Featherston and Greytown interested in the sport.
