Te Atatu MP Chris Carter dodged the waiting media tonight as he left a Labour Party national council that was considering moves to expel him.
The meeting had lasted more than four hours when Mr Carter left.
He later told NZPA he had no comment to make because the meeting was still considering his future.
Mr Carter was thrown out of Labour's caucus after sending an anonymous letter to various media saying a coup was planned against Labiour leader Phil Goff because he couldn't win the next election.
At the time Mr Carter was smarting from criticism of excessive spending on travel while he was a minister.
He was quickly outed as the letter's author.
Today he was fighting to stay in the party.
His decision last week not to contend the Te Atatu seat would have removed some of the impetus for expulsion.
