An hour-long arson spree has caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage to cars in Petone.
Seven cars were torched in a period of just over an hour overnight.
Detective Sergeant Tasha Penny says the first call, to a car on fire in Buick Street, came in just after two o'clock.
For the next hour police and fire personnel went from location to location, putting out car fires and one fire in a rubbish skip at a factory in Sydney Street.
More cars were torched on Jackson Street and Regent Street.
Lower Hutt police are asking anyone who was in the area between two and four o'clock this morning to get in contact.
