First there was cow tipping. Now it seems car tipping may be a growing phenomenon in Whangarei.
Cow tipping is sneaking up on a sleeping, upright cow and pushing it over for fun.
However, in the past week Whangarei police have had two reports of cars being tipped on their sides while parked on the street.
On Tuesday, a Honda City parked in Third Ave was found lying on its side just before 7.30am.
Car owner Nelson Navalta said a neighbour knocked on his door and told him that there had been some unusual off-street parking outside.
"I saw the funny side of it," Mr Navalta said.
With the help of neighbours the car was righted with nothing but some grass and mud marking the side panels.
Mr Navalta said there was a party at a neighbouring property on Monday night and wondered if it had been an opportunistic prank.
Whangarei Constable Jim Anderson said last week a small Suzuki van in the Whau Valley area had been found on its side.
Police were not sure if the two incidents were linked and were investigating.
