Six cars were badly damaged when a branch from an old oak tree snapped off at Epsom Girls Grammar in Auckland today.
The branch fell without warning shortly before midday, badly damaging six cars belonging to staff and a visitor to the school.
Principal Madeline Gunn said it was fortunate no was injured. The tree had been checked recently and there was no indication there was anything wrong with it.
Trees on the school property were checked routinely for health and safety reasons, she said.
