Police are appealing for witnesses to an arson attack in a residential street in Feilding overnight.
Detective Constable Natasha Allan said it appeared a liquid accelerant was poured on the side of a carport in Kennedy Avenue before being set alight.
Two cars, a Holden Commodore and a Honda Odessa, were caught in the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the second car.
The household was lucky neighbours raised the alarm quickly, and the fire did not spread to the house, she said.
Police hoped to hear from anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area around the time of the attack, about 12.30am.
