KEY POINTS:
Police are concerned about the sexual overtones of the attempted abduction of a woman by a carload of men early yesterday morning
Detective Sergeant Rod Carpinter said the 20-year-old woman was walking to work on Thames Street in Morrinsville about 5.30am when the attack occurred.
"She was approached by a group of men in a car and one of the occupants got out and tried to force her into the vehicle," he said.
"Managing to break free of her attacker's grasp she fled the scene and alerted Police."
Mr Carpinter said police were concerned about the "obvious sexual overtones" of the incident.
They are calling for sightings of the offenders' car.
"We're looking for a white Mitsubishi 4-door car, possibly a Lancer or Galant," Mr Carpinter said.
