A young man who has already pleaded guilty to two charges of careless driving causing injury has had his hearing on a third charge adjourned until just before Christmas.
Jordan Lee Dobbyn, 18, admitted charges of injuring Taupo cyclists David Joyce and Sirpa Lajunen on Friday, May 25, when the Toyota Hilux he was driving struck the pair as they cycled along Poihipi Rd. Both were seriously injured and have not yet fully recovered.
But Dobbyn was also charged with driving while his licence was revoked, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
In Taupo District Court today during Dobbyn's defended hearing, his lawyer Peter Hardie said Dobbyn was not guilty of driving on a revoked licence, because the notice of revocation of licence that had been served at Dobbyn's address last year named a Jamie Carlson on the notice, not Jordan Dobbyn.
"There's no actual evidence that the person to whom the notice was addressed was Mr Jordan Dobbyn," he told Judge Phillip Cooper.
