A man described as a career criminal has had his convictions quashed by the Court of Appeal for a second time and will not face another retrial.
Warren Joseph Cruden, 45, had twice been sentenced to four years in prison after he allegedly climbed a fire escape to force open a window at a tourist hotel in central Christchurch and took US$1300 ($1755).
But the Court of Appeal yesterday said it had quashed the latest convictions and there would no retrial.
