Car windows smashed in Wellington overnight

Dozens of vehicles in and around central Wellington were damaged in a window smashing spree early this morning.

A police spokesman said while some residents reported having items stolen from their cars, others were left only with broken windows.

Vehicles parked on several streets in the central business district were affected, along with others in the suburbs of Brooklyn and Mornington.

Police expected to receive many more calls throughout the morning and advised vehicle owners to go to either Wellington central or Kilbirnie police stations to report the damage in person.
