Police investigating an armed home invasion in Lower Hutt last night are appealing for sightings of a car believed to be linked to the case.
A man was shot and a woman received head injuries after four masked attackers kicked down the door of their Stokes Valley home about 9.45pm. Three children were also in the house on Amundsen Grove.
A 37-year-old man was shot in the thigh and the woman received head wounds after being hit with the butt of a rifle.
The four offenders fled the scene in a stolen red or maroon Mazda Astina 4 door liftback.
Police discovered the car burning in the car park of Taita Bowling Club. An examination of the vehicle will take place today.
Both were flown to Wellington Hospital but their injuries were not believed to be life threatening, Inspector Mike Coleman said.
There was no indication the couple knew the invaders, or that the incident was gang related, he said.
Police are speaking to witnesses and canvassing the area for information.
