Car hits power pole, crashes through fence near Rotorua

One person has been injured after a car hit a power pole, crashed through a fence and ended up with a post through the windscreen.

The crash happened about 1.40pm on State Highway 30, about 150m past the intersection with SH33 just outside Rotorua.

A photographer at the scene said the car was sitting in a paddock, having crashed through a fence. A large post has gone through the passenger side of the windscreen.

A police media spokeswoman said a car hit a power pole and there was a small fire on the grass, which had been put out.

She said one person had suffered moderate injuries.

Power lines were down, with the Unison website reporting 202 customers in Tikitere were without power as a result.

Unison estimates power will be restored by 4.16pm.
