Police have wound up a search and rescue operation for the night after a car crashed off a bridge in Hamilton and sank in Waikato River.
The incident happened at Pukete Bridge on Wairere Drive in St Andrews about 8.30pm.
The bridge was closed to traffic for about an hour as police in an inflatable boat with lights searched the river.
The Fire Service said three trucks were sent to the scene.
A St John Ambulance spokesman said it attended but left because no people had been located.
