Then competitors were able to put their souped-up engines to the test at yesterday's drag racing at Fram Autolite Dragway (formerly Champion Dragway) in Meremere.
Members of New Zealand car clubs, individual owners and overseas competitors filled the track in the hottest late-model cars and rotary-engined vehicles.
Organiser Jessica Walsh said more than 70,000 people attended the events over the two days.
Yesterday's included a celebrity drag race, the famed Rotary Bikini Jam and various competitions with one lucky spectator winning a car valued at $40,000.
The V4 and Rotary Nationals is the largest event of its kind in Australasia.
It's the largest showcase of youth culture and entertainment, often drawing bigger crowds than the Big Day Out.
