Four people have had a lucky escape after the car they were in drove off a bluff on the Christchurch Port Hills overnight.
A police spokesman said the car went off Summit Rd nears Gebbies Pass summit and plunged down a steep bank just before 11pm.
"The vehicle was driven off the side of the road and travelled a short distance down a bluff," he said.
There were four people in the vehicle when the accident happened.
Those inside managed to scramble to safety to the road, he said.
