A car has crashed through the door of the Porirua Fire Station and smashed into a parked fire truck.
The crash happened at 1.40pm today and fire crew manning the station rushed to help the three men in the car.
Thorndon senior station officer Paul Lyall said his crew had just arrived to provide cover at the Porirua station and were having some lunch in the mess room when they heard a loud crash.
The crew went out to see a black sedan had ploughed through the front door of the engine bay and into their fire appliance parked in the bay. The front of the fire truck was badly damaged.
"We were out the back at the time in the mess room so we have no idea how it happened and no witnesses have come forward. But it has obviously somehow come around into the front bay," Lyall said.
