A search has begun for a car reported to have crashed off a Westland Bridge this afternoon.
The crash at the Wanganui River bridge on State Highway 6 north of Harihari was reported shortly before 4.30pm.
A helicopter was searching the river and the police dive squad and crash investigators were en route to the scene, police said.
A jet boat and whitewater team were also preparing to join the search.
No further information about the vehicle or its occupants was available.
