Car crashes into harbour

A car carrying at least two children plunged into Porirua Harbour this morning after the driver was forced to take evasive action on State Highway 1.

Inspector Peter Stokes of the Police Central Communications Centre said it was initially feared that people were still trapped in the car, which was half-submerged in the lagoon.

However, everyone inside, including at least two children in the back seat, made it safely to shore.
