Car crashes after police pursuit in Wellington

Police are speaking to two 27-year-old men following an early morning police pursuit in Wellington.

Officers became involved in a vehicle chase when they attempted to stop a car on Mana Esplanade in Porirua at 3.45am, said Porirua senior sergeant Todd Southall.

"The vehicle failed to stop. A short pursuit for about three to four minutes occurred and eventually the vehicle lost control and crashed at the Porirua roundabout on the overramp to Parumoana [Road]."

Two people from the car then ran off, Mr Southall said.

"A police dog attended and tracked one offender for about 200 metres to 300 metres and found him hiding in bush. The second offender continued running.''

A man was eventually located by a police patrol in the Aotea Lagoon area.

Two men were being interviewed by officers in relation to the incident, Mr Southall said.

Police were also investigating property located inside the vehicle which they say may have been stolen.
